The new Afghan Compact launched in London in January and NATO’s major re-deployment in Afghanistan provided the opportunity for an open review of the security and development prospects in post-conflict Afghanistan and their implications for the region.

On this occasion, ICOS organised the Kabul International Symposium on Security and Development in Afghanistan: The Escalating Crisis, which took place in Kabul, Afghanistan on Sunday, 26 March, 2006.

During the Symposium, international and regional experts met along with Afghan officials and foreign military and security representatives. Security and development aspects lie at the core of Afghanistan reconstruction nexus. Speakers presented their comments on current security issues in Afghanistan and the dynamics at play between security and development
